red chilli coconut chutney recipe or coconut chutney recipe or how to make red coconut chutney at home with step by step process - coconut chutney is an important part of any south indian dish. it goes perfect with idli, dosa, uttapam and vada etc.

this red chilli coconut chutney tastes great with plain dosa. a thin layer can be spread on the inside of the dosa. it taste great and is a good variation to regular dosas.

red chilli coconut chutney is one of my innovations which i did with the coconut chutney and i really loved it. with the twist of fiery hot red chillies, it enhances the taste and look of coconut chutney. this chutney is easy to make.

ingredients for red chilli coconut chutney :

  • dry red chillies - 6-7
  • chana dal - 2 tsp
  • urad dal - 1 tsp
  • tamarind paste - ½ tsp
  • chopped jaggery (gur) - 1 tsp (you can also use sugar)
  • grated coconut - 1 cup
  • garlic cloves - 3
  • black peppercorns (kalimirch) - 3-4
  • mustard seeds - ½ tsp
  • asafoetida (hing) - a pinch
  • curry leaves - 5-6
  • oil - 2 tbsp
  • salt - as per taste
  • water - as per required

directions for red chilli coconut chutney :

  • heat oil in a pan. add chana dal, urad dal, and roast this on a medium flame till golden brown in colour.
  • now add dry red chilli and saute for 1-2 minutes.
  • add the garlic, tamarind paste, black peppercorns and saute it.
  • after 2 minutes switch off the flame and add salt, grated coconut, mix well.
  • put all together into the mixer grinder, add some water and make a paste.
  • pour this chutney in a bowl.
  • for the tadka heat 1 tbsp oil in a small pan. once oil is hot, add curry leaves, mustard seeds and cumin seeds and a pinch of hing and fry them.
  • now add tadaka in chutney bowl and mix well.
  • now red chilli coconut chutney is ready to be served with idli, dosa, uttapam, vada, pakoda or any south indian dish.
