Chinese Style Veg Fried Idlis, This Easy and Quick Snacks Recipe is a perfect blend of South Indian and Chinese Flavours.

Ingredients for Fried Idli Recipe :

  • Semolina Idli or Rice Idli - 6 (Click Here for Idli Recipes)
  • Small Mustard Seeds (Rai) - ½ Tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder - ½ Tsp
  • Black Pepper Powder - ¼ Tsp
  • Ginger Paste - 1 Tsp
  • Soya Sauce - 1 Tsp
  • Tomato Sauce - 1 Tsp
  • Vinegar - 1 Tsp
  • Chilli Garlic Sauce - ½ Tsp (optional)
  • Green Chilli Sauce - ½ Tsp (optional)
  • Cabbage and Capsicum - 1 Cup (cut into fine long strips)
  • Onion - ½ Cup (cut into fine long strips)
  • Salt - As per taste
  • Oil - 2 Tbsp


Directions for Fried Idli Recipe :

  • Cut the onion, cabbage and capsicums.

  • To make Fried Rava Idli or Fried Rice Idli, cut each idli from the centre to divide them into 4 equal pieces.
  • Heat the oil in a wok/kadai. When oil is hot, add mustard seeds into it. Let them splutter for one minute.
  • Now add ginger and saute them for  another minute.
  • Now add chopped onions and cook till the onions are translucent.
  • Add capsicum and cabbage and saute them.

Fried Idli | Masala Idli | Chinese Style Fried Idli

  • Stir the ingredients continuously for 4-5 minutes as they get cooked.
  • Now add red chilli powder, soya sauce, tomato sauce, vinegar, Chilli Garlic Sauce, Green Chilli Sauce and black pepper powder. Mix all the contents in the kadai as you stir them constantly for 2-3 minutes on a high flame.

Vinegar | Tomato Sauce | Green Chilli Sauce | Chilli Garlic Sauce | Soya Sauce

  • After that add pieces of idli in it and mix them properly.
  • Cover and cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes. Keep stirring in between.

  • Switch off the gas.
  • Now Hot and Delicious Chinese style Fried Idlis is ready to be served. You can serve this Fried Idli along with Tomato Sauce or Szechuan Sauce.

idli is prepared from dal, chawal and if you are in a hurry, soak dal chawal before hand, grind and ferment, if not grounded and fermented then idli can also be made from sooji or rava or semolina.

  • take a bowl and add rice idli batter, 1 tbsp oil and salt in it. mix well.
  • make sure that the mixture should not neither too thick nor too thin.
  • take the button idli stand and grease the moulds well using oil.
  • heat water in a electric cooker or pressure cooker.
  • pour the rice idli batter in idli moulds carefully.
  • now place this idli stand into electric cooker or pressure cooker and cover pressure cooker with the lid without the whistle.
  • steam for 10-12 minutes on medium heat.
  • open the lid and check whether the idli is cooked properly from inside. now perform a toothpick/knife test. insert a toothpick/knife in the center of the idli. if it comes out clean, your idlis are ready.
  • now remove the idli stand from electric cooker or pressure cooker and let it cool down.
  • take out each idli from the idli stand with the help of a spoon/knife and put them on a plate.
  • now soft, light, airy and spongy rice idli is ready. serve it with authentic sambar, coconut chutney, channa dal chutney or peanut chutney.
