aloo masala sandwich recipe | aloo sandwich recipe | potato sandwich recipe | how to make aloo sandwich with step by step process - it is one of the most delicious and easy indian sandwiches which is stuffed with a spiced potato filling. this sandwiches can be made without much effort. it can be made for breakfast or teatime snack. these potato sandwiches also go well in the lunch box for kids.


use any bread which you like or prefer for making these sandwiches. a day old bread is also fine. these can also be made in sandwich toaster or a grill. you can also use boiled green peas in this recipe. they are best served with green chutney or tomato ketchup.

when i boil potatoes, i boil some extra potatoes. you never know where they will come handy. i keep in the fridge and use them in a day or two. you can use them to make variety of aloo recipes like aloo paratha, aloo tikki, dhaba style aloo curry, kuttu pakodi, aloo masala, samosa pinwheels etc.

in addition i would like to share some of my other bread recipes from my blog. it mainly includes, bread dahi bhalla, crispy potato toast, bread pakora, etc.


ingredients for potato sandwich or aloo masala sandwich :

  • Bread slices - 10
  • potatoes - 3-4 medium (boiled)
  • Roasted cumin seeds - ½ tsp
  • green chili - 1 (chopped) (optional)
  • coriander powder (dhania) - 2 tsp
  • red chili powder - ½ tsp
  • garam masala - ½ tsp
  • mango powder (amchur) - 1 tsp
  • salt - as per taste
  • coriander leaves (cilantro or hara dhania) - 2 tbsp (finely chopped)
  • butter or ghee - 2 tbsp


directions for potato sandwich or aloo masala sandwich :

  • pressure cook potatoes for 3-4 whistles. wait till it cools.
  • once cool, peel off the skin, and mashed them well with a potato masher or with a back of a ladle.

  • take a bowl and add mashed potatoes with all the spices:, cumin seeds, coriander powder, red chilli powder, mango powder, salt, garam masala.

  • Now add finely chopped green chilli and coriander leaves (cilantro).

  • mix all the ingredients very well.
  • take a slice of bread and spread the aloo masala on the bread.

  • now cover it with other plain bread.

  • heat a pan/tawa and grease some butter on tawa.
  • place the sandwich on the heated pan.

  • grease the butter on the other side now.

  • press down gently with a spatula and grill the sandwich until both sides are crispy and golden brown.

  • cut the sandwiches and serve hot with green chutney or tomato ketchup.

  • tomato ketchup - 2 tbsp
  • red chilli powder - ½ tsp
  • cumin (jeera) powder - 1 tsp
  • garam masala - 1 tsp
  • mango (amchur) powder - 1 tsp
  • grated ginger - ½ tsp
  • green chillies - ½ tsp (finely chopped)
  • coriander leaves - 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
  • sesame seeds - 1 tbsp
  • salt - to taste
  • butter - 2 tbsp


directions for crispy potato toast :
  • for potato mixture, mash the potatoes and add onion, red chilli powder, cumin powder, garam masala, mango powder, grated ginger, chopped green chillies, chopped coriander leaves, salt and mix well.

  • cut the bread slices diagonally in two pieces each.
  • spread the tomato ketchup on one side of slice evenly.
  • spread the prepared potato mixture on the top of ketchup.
  • now sprinkle some sesame seeds on the top of potato mixture.
  • take a tawa/non stick pan, evenly toast the prepared breads using butter on both the sides until they become crisp and golden brown in colour.
  • serve these hot crispy potato toast along with your favourite ketchup and chutney!!!!
