vegetable appam recipe | rice dal batter veg appam recipe | appe recipe | how to make appam with rice dal batter and vegetable




veg appam recipe or rice dal batter appam recipe or appe recipe or appam recipe with step by step process - veg appam is prepared with rice dal batter and some chopped veggies. appam is always been the most popular and favorite snack for breakfast.


it is referred with different names all over south india but the taste and preparation remains fairly consistent. it is known as appam, appe, paddu etc.

appe is not only makes a perfect breakfast but is healthy to eat too. very less oil is used to prepare these appams and one can make the too quickly. these tempting appams can be a good option as a light snack.

veg rice dal batter appams are so devouring that the kids too relish eating them. you can serve these with any indian chutney or dip like green coriander chutney or tomato ketchup or coconut chutney. pack them in tiffin for kids along with tomato ketchup.


if you want to make instant appams then you can try these…. bread maggi appam, sooji appam (rava appam), bread aloo appam.

ingredients for rice dal batter appam :

  • oil - 3-4 tbsp
  • small mustard seeds (rai) - 1 tsp
  • cauliflower - ¼ cup (grated)
  • onion - 1 (finely chopped)
  • green chilly - 1 (finely chopped - optional)
  • ginger paste - 1 tsp
  • capsicum - 1 tbsp (finely chopped)
  • salt - as per taste
  • water - as per required


directions for rice dal batter appam :

  • add grated cauliflower, finely chopped cauliflower, onion, green chilies, capsicum, ginger paste and salt into the batter. mix everything really well. if the batter appears too thick then add some water to it.
  • cover and keep the batter aside for 10 to rest. use it later to make appams.
  • after that batter is now ready. now heat 1 tsp oil in a small wok or pan and add mustard seeds to it. when the seeds splutter then switch off the flame.
  • pour this tempering to the batter and mix well.
  • preheat an appam maker and pour little oil in its each mold.
  • fill each mold with the batter and covered it.

  • let them simmer for 3 minutes on low-medium flame.
  • when the appe get golden brown from beneath, flip the side and continue cooking until golden brown from this side as well.

  • it can take 2 minutes. cook the appams until they get golden brown on both the sides.
  • take out the roasted appams in a plate and similarly prepare the rest as well.
  • now you hot and delicious veg appam is ready to be served. served veg rice dal appam with chutney & sambar.

chilli paneer, chilli mushroom, gobi manchurian, vegetable manchurian, schezwan fried rice, egg fried rice, veg spring roll, schezwan egg fried rice  are some of the most common ones from the​ chinese cuisine

you can add vegetables as per your choice. here i have used onions, french beans, spring onion, cabbage, carrots and capsicums. vegetable fried rice is perfect as a snack or main course and for hosting great parties. in its typical preparation boiled rice are tossed with garlic, ginger, chopped vegetables, soy sauce, chilli sauce, tomato ketchup and spices that gives it its signature taste and texture.

Ingredients for veg fried rice:

  • basmati rice - 2 cup
  • onion - 1 small size (finely chopped)
  • capsicum (red, green and yellow) - ½ cup (finely chopped)
  • carrot - ½ mid size (finely chopped)
  • spring onions - 1-2 (finely chopped)
  • cabbage - ¼ cup (finely chopped)
  • french beans - 2-3 (finely chopped)
  • oil - 4-5 tbsp
  • ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli garlic sauce - 1 tsp
  • vinegar - 1 tbsp
  • soy sauce - 2 tbsp
  • black pepper powder - ½ tsp
  • m.s.g ( monosodium glutamate) or ajinomoto - ½ - 1 tsp
  • water - 2-3 liter (as per required)
  • sesame oil - few drops (optional)
  • salt - as per taste


directions for boiling the rice :

  • boil water in a deep pan.
  • after the water comes to a boil then add the rice.
  • now add salt, 2 tbsp oil and mix well.
  • cook on a medium flame for 8 to 10 minutes or till the rice is 90% cooked.
  • make sure you boil the rice properly about 90 %.

  • drain them and wash the rice with cold water so that cooking process is stopped and the excess starch is removed.

  • after washing the rice with cold water add 2 -3 tbsp oil and mix well with hands.

  • cut the vegetables as mentioned in ingredient section.

  • heat a wok (kadai) and add 1-2 tbsp oil.
  • put on the flame to high.
  • now add chopped onions and cook the onions for about 2 minutes.

  • add ginger garlic paste and cook for another one minutes.
  • after that add chopped carrots and chopped beans. keep the flame on high and roast the veggies for 2-3 minutes. now add chopped capsicum and chopped cabbage into it. saute the veggies for 1-2 more minutes.

  • now add boiled rice, soy sauce, vinegar, red chilli garlic sauce into the veggies and mix well.
  • add m.s.g ( monosodium glutamate) or ajinomoto, salt, black pepper powder and mix well.

  • now add few drops of sesame oil and toss it well and stir fry for 3-4 minutes on high heat.
  • sprinkle some chopped spring onion on it. mix it well.
  • turn off the flame.
  • hot veg fried rice is ready to be served. serve veg fried rice plain or accompanied with veg manchurian curry or vegetables in hot and sour sauce.

  • if you are using mushrooms then the mushrooms have to be chopped fine, so that they cook quickly on a high heat while stir frying.
